Golden-fronted woodpeckers.mp4 Okay, the link works but it isn’t as pretty as I would like. If you have a fast internet connection choose to view the video in HD, it is much sharper. More work on this later, I’m getting outdoors in a few minutes!
This is a short clip of golden-fronted woodpeckers filmed in Palo Duro Canyon in the Panhandle of Texas. Longer videos will follow and as long as all goes as planned, all will be in HD. This is my first attempt at You Tube so please be patient. The woodpeckers appear to be sitting on eggs and switched off on incubation duties regularly. However, the male (red on his head) spent more time in the cavity than the female, likely because her energy demands are higher due to egg production. In the first section of video, you can hear the male call to the female and hear her respond. Most of the video was shot with a Canon DSLR but the “on the trunk video” was filmed with a GoPro2 camera attached to a branch above the cavity. It would have been better had it been closer to the cavity but that tends to make them nervous and I don’t want to disturb them.
